For over half a year, the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) has been undermining the efforts of the American Tea Party Movement, by misrepresenting the level of support for the Reid/Peloisi/Obama public health care plan; and, in terms of Public Relations and Public Perception, the AARP has been able to steamroll over the Tea Party movement, without encountering even token resistance, although it would have been a simple matter for the Tea Partiers to neutralize them at any time.

Sadly, this week, on national television, Americans were able to witness the harvesting of the poison fruits of the left wing Obama driven alliance with both the AARP and the American Medical Associations.

Earlier in the week, President Obama himself cited the support of the AARP as evidence of senior citizen support for his health care plan; then on Sunday, liberal Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown also referenced the support of the AARP to show that Seniors are behind the health care plan.

Appearing on Face the Nation with Senator Brown, Tennessee Republican Senator Lamar Alexander made no response to Senator Browns claims about seniors and the AARP.  Why would he?  The Tea Party Movement has not made even token resistance to the AARP, certainly no press releases or position statements.

So the AARP got a freebie; and that means in the slow, steady, inexorable liberal march to government controlled health care, the liberal socialists got a freebie.  Instead of running into a road block on senior support of the President’s health care initiative, liberals got the red carpet; and with help from the liberal media, they have been able to brainwash the American people into thinking that senior citizens are largely in support of the President’s plan.

What should the Tea Partiers have done?

The solution is simple, and it requires almost no resources.

(I) There are a number of Tea Party groups in the United States, operating more or less independently of each other.  As a group or individually, the Tea Party organizations can create “Senior” committees whose job is release high profile statements to the media and (more importantly) to the new media, countering the claims of the AARP and challenging the AARP’s defacto role as spokes organization for seniors.

(II) Work with politicians who make high profile appearances on shows like “Face the Nation” and “Meet the Press”.  Give them the ammunition they need to challenge the integrity of the AARP and to portray the AARP as a shill for the insurance agency, instead of the universal do-gooder-for-seniors organization they have cleverly positioned themselves as.
