Democrat Mike McWherter is racing to the right as fast as he can. He released this statement recently to let everyone know that he’s all for hunting and fishing!
Statement from Mike McWherter, under the headline, First Day of Dove Season – Mike McWherter Supports the Right to Hunt and Fish Tennessee
“On November 2nd, voters will go to the polls and make a decision that will impact the lives of Tennesseans for generations to come. On the November ballot, voters will also decide on a proposed constitutional amendment that aims to establish hunting and fishing as protected rights in Tennessee. As a candidate for governor, an avid hunter and long-time member of the National Rifle Association, I fully support this ballot measure and encourage Tennessee voters to do the same,” said Mike McWherter, Democratic nominee for Governor.
“I am a hunter and a conservationist who recognizes the significant contributions of the outdoor community. Hunting and fishing generate billions in economic impact every year for our state. The outdoor community is also on the front lines when it comes to preserving endangered natural places and managing our wildlife resources. These outdoor activities are part of our state’s legacy and Tennesseans should take this opportunity to secure our heritage in the state constitution by voting yes on Amendment #1.”
The problem is, Mr. McWherter, is that your party desperately wants to eliminate the 2nd Amendment – along with a few other Constitutional amendments. While we have no doubt that you like to hunt and fish, the Democrat Party is against everything that the American Founders stood for. You represent the Democrat Party – the same party who has taken over our health care, financial industry, auto industry – and you want us to trust you.
WE DON’T.
We also have a real problem with ANY candidate who has to move in another political direction in order to get elected. That means that the candidate purposefully changed their position(s) for the SOLE PURPOSE OF GETTING ELECTED! Often the press will report this ‘movement to the center’ yet people still vote for these candidates. It means that the candidate is lying and everyone knows it. It means that the candidate has no core values – or, at least, no core values that they’re willing to put on full display for the voting public. Instead, they temporarily adopt YOUR values in order to gain your vote. (Interestingly, no candidate ever moved to the left to get elected; they always move to the right or the so-called ‘center’.) This is what we believe Mike McWherter is doing. He is running as a Republican.
And that brings us to Bill Haslam.
We don’t trust him either. He appears to be another John McCain – a Republican in name only – a RINO. In a recent article entitled “McWherter-Haslam: On the Record“, Haslam dances around the debate surrounding the government takeover of health care:
“I’m not quite as willing as he is to accept the national healthcare plan. I think it involves some real costs to the state of Tennessee. That’s gonna have to come out of somewhere: K-12 education, higher ed. or mental disabilities or somewhere else. And I think it’s more problematic than I think he does.”
Mr. Haslam is definitely NOT a conservative. If so, he’d speak boldly against government control of our health care. His response to this question was limp at best and, unfortunately, very telling. He, like McWherter, is not willing to take a stance and display real CORE values but, instead, he’s chosen to play politics.
We don’t trust him either.
