U.S. DOLLAR COLLAPSES……HOUSING VALUES NOW AT ALL TIME LOW……. COUNTRY GOING BANKRUPT DUE TO HUGE DEBT……..UNEMPLOYMENT AT 20% AND CLIMBING…….CONGRESS PASSSES BILL HONORING PETER RABBIT!!
How oblivious can Congress be to the world around them? Take a look…
On Senator Lamar Alexander’s congressional website, he is touting his co-sponsorship and recent Senate passage of the Travel Promotion Act of 2009 (here). This bill was tucked neatly inside HR 1299 (United States Capitol Police Administrative Technical Corrections Act of 2009) and was reconciled with the House Bill on a 78-18 vote in the Senate (vote) on 1-25-10.
Per Senator Alexander, the legislation will bring more travelers to the wonderful state of Tennessee and, as a result, more jobs! Sounds like a noble cause but at what cost? Is this the function of the federal government? Unfortunately, the citizens of Tennessee are going to need additional jobs just to pay the taxes to fund the continual growth of the federal government perpetuated by the implementation of such programs like the Travel Promotion Act of 2009! (The legislation also contains a hidden tax on the travel industry.)
The Senator’s press release makes mention of the new government office that will be created in order to oversee a portion of this act:
It also creates an Office of Travel Promotion in the Department of Commerce to develop programs to increase the number of international visitors to the United States.
Just what we need – a new government office and more government employees! Haven’t you noticed, Senator Alexander, that our debt is out of control? Haven’t you heard that the number of federal employees jumped 14.5% since 2008 and that these federal employees earn almost twice the salary and benefits of a private sector worker? Who do you think pays for these salaries and benefits? Who do you think is going to pay for this new government office, Senator Alexander? (Obama and the Government Employees)
……..THE CITIZENS OF TENNESSEE!!!!!
Grrrrrr …. Isn’t there anybody in Congress who ‘gets it’? …. STOP THE GOVERNMENT SPENDING AND SUPPORT THE FREE MARKET!!!!
(Note: Senator Bob Corker voted against this legislation.)
