Time is Up
March 3rd, 2010 . by Wilson County Tea PartyOur country is at a fundamental crossroads with both parties pulling ferociously in opposite directions. On the surface, the issue would appear to be the future of our health care system. However, it’s much deeper than that. At the core of this fight is the struggle between the Constitutionally-supported free market and a degree of government control never experienced before in America.
It’s time for you to decide where you stand on this issue and to make your voice heard.
The President and the Democrat majority in Congress want to take us down the path of government-run health care even though there is nothing in the Constitution that gives them the right to do this. Contrary to what you may have heard, health care is NOT a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Many congressional representatives supportive of this path have made it clear that they are in favor of a single-payer system much like the health care system in the UK and Canada. Others have made it clear that passage of the initial health care legislation is just the beginning of the transformation of our health care system. However, they fail to tell you about the long term goals of this transformation. Transform into WHAT? Those choosing to deny this aren’t being honest with you and we believe that you need to understand the ramifications of government-run health care.
Before reading this, keep in mind that there are other ways to solve our health care issues. There are free-market solutions such as competition across state lines and TORT reform at the Federal and State level. But this is not what they want.
If you fail to join in this fight RIGHT NOW, it is no different than expressing support for the Democrat version of this so-called ‘reform’. I urge you to print it out and place it on your fridge – in plain sight. By sitting on the sidelines, this is what believe and what you’re supporting:
- I believe that the 70% of American citizens who want to throw out the current health care legislation or start over on a new plan are wrong and misinformed. I understand this plan much better than they do.
- I accept the fact that my physician will likely be forced to abide by government recommendations or requirements when determining the course of treatment for my illness. I realize that I may not even need to see a ‘real’ physician since my treatment will be predetermined anyway.
- I will gladly accept the limited health treatment given to elderly people due to their age and life expectancy because I realize that we will reach a point when the government can no longer afford to provide extensive care to individuals especially in the final stages of life or elderly being treated for multiple ailments. I realize that only the government can decide when to terminate treatment.
- I also accept the fact that we will not be able to afford to fight for the life of a newborn baby born with multiple birth defects because the lifelong cost to maintain that child will be too high as will the costs of treating cancer patients with limited 5-year survival rates.
- I accept the elimination of ‘extra’ treatments like the use of steroids to control pain because we must cut back costs somewhere in order to support the strongest in our society. Although it won’t be referred to as ‘rationing’ of care, that is, indeed, what will happen. However, I accept that.
- I have no problem waiting longer for basic care including doctor visits nor do I have a problem waiting longer for diagnostic tests. I understand that longer wait for diagnostic tests might mean that some people will die due to long diagnostic time when serious illnesses are involved but I believe that this is the price to pay for coverage for all. I don’t mind waiting three years on a waiting-list for a doctor as they do in Canada.
- I don’t believe that the government bureaucrats will steer health care funding toward cities and states that support their re-election efforts nor do I believe that government-controlled health care will turn our beloved country into a one-political-party state.
- I know it will likely lead to two classes of people – the rich and the rest of us – but that’s ok.
- I know that government-run health care will likely result in much less ‘experimental’ treatment for common or rare illnesses and fewer new drugs because there will be no profit in these innovations.
- I believe that the federal government is the most efficient entity to run my health care plan despite the fact that they have brought almost every other social program to the brink of bankruptcy.
- I believe that government-run health care will not add to the national debt and will not bankrupt our country because the government has always accurately predicted the cost of social programs.
- I understand that so-called ‘competition’ cannot exist between a non-profit government co-op and a for-profit insurance company so it is likely that all private insurance companies will eventually file for bankruptcy and we will be left with a single-payer system. At that point, I will gladly move to a government-run co-op.
- I believe that the Senators and Representatives who are supporting government-run health care have good reason for not insisting that their health care plan be eliminated immediately in favor of the government-run plan and this in no way indicates that the government-run system is not the best for our country.
- If my healthy children refuse to purchase health insurance, I have no problem with the fees, fines and, possibly, jail time that the government will likely impose on them as punishment even if the Constitution gives the federal government no right to impose such requirements. We must sacrifice our Constitutional liberties for the sake of the collective – including our state sovereignty.
- I will gladly pay a large increase in state and federal taxes so that everyone in the country can have health care even if the institution of a 10% state income tax is necessary to fund the unfunded Medicaid mandates that will be shifted to the states.
- I understand that the proposed plans include huge out-of-pocket costs for each individual in addition to the new taxes. Many see this as redistribution of wealth but I believe that the greedy rich must pay.
- I understand that the taxes to pay for government-run health care start immediately although the health care benefits won’t start for more than 4 years.
- I don’t mind paying extra taxes for the inclusion of illegal aliens in our health care plan .
- I will gladly pay for abortions on demand.
- I believe that limitations on the salaries of physicians and other medical personnel will not keep the best and brightest out of the medical field. I also believe that the requirement that medical schools accept students based strictly on EEO rather than performance/grade-point averages will be great for the profession and will make us a better country.
- I accept that fact that government will likely find reason to control other behaviors in my life that influence my physical health in order to reduce costs even if this behavior control is in violation of my Constitutional rights. Once again, liberties must be sacrificed for the common good.
- I am aware that, once dismantled, the private health care system cannot be rebuilt.
Is this what you believe? If not, PLEASE pick up the phone and call your Congressman NOW. Even better…..drive to your Congressman’s local office (and bring a friend or neighbor) and demand that they vote NO on any plan that contains anything other than free market solutions. Call them again tomorrow… and the day after that…..and the day after that.
Give a copy of this to everyone you know.
If we don’t stop this, we will have turned the big corner toward Socialism. It’s up to YOU.
